Study Spanish

Spanish is the world’s third most spoken language, after Mandarin and English, and spoken by more than 400 million people as their native language and by another 100 million as a secondary language. There are just about as many Spanish speakers in the Western hemisphere as there are English speakers. Apart from being widely spoken across Spain, Spanish is the native language of most people in Central and South America (although the official language in Brazil is Portuguese a large part of the population do understand and speak Spanish) and many more living across the Caribbean. Mexico contains the largest population of Spanish speakers in the world and Spanish is also the second most widely spoken language in the United States, after English.

Why Study Spanish?

Spanish FlagDue to the growing popularity of the Spanish language over the past decade or so demand for Spanish language courses has doubled and an ever increasing number of foreign language students opt to learn Spanish as a second or third language. Spanish is not only a beautiful and useful language, from a business point of view Spanish opens the way to communicate and initiate links with a huge potential market and there is a growing demand on the international job market for people that are literate in Spanish. In Europe and other countries around the world better trade ties with Latin America has increased the demand for Spanish speakers and in the US and Canada being bilingual is increasingly recognised as an important tool to advance one’s career due to the growing influence of the Spanish language in those countries.

The most productive way to increase your language skills is by studying abroad in a Spanish speaking culture, live amongst native speakers whilst being trained by accredited and skilled native teachers. For European students Spain is often first choice for Spanish language study but an increasing number of students, from Europe and North America, decide to study Spanish in Latin America with Mexico being a very popular study destination. People who have been to Mexico and other Latin American countries often find that Latin American Spanish is easier to understand and speak because of its more appealing phonetic structure. Learning Spanish in Latin America may therefore generate faster results than learning the language in Spain.
